March 2008:

The Program Committee has been diligently putting together both the March 29th program with Richard Loewenstein, MD and the May 10th program with Marylene Cloitre, PhD.  Dr. Cloitre, who founded the Institute for Trauma and Resilience at New York University, is finalizing her topic with the assistance of Rina Dubin, Ed.D.  Dr. Cloitre will be presenting on May 10th for the final half-day program of the year.  She focuses her work on assessment and treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and the effects of childhood maltreatment on emotional and social functioning across the lifespan.

The committee continues to work on scheduling speakers for next year and beyond.  We are in communication with Ellert Nijenhuis, PhD, whom many of us had the pleasure of seeing last year, to attempt to schedule a longer program with him for the future. Rachel Yehuda, PhD, also promises to be an exciting candidate for next year. She is a professor of psychiatry at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and is Director of the Traumatic Stress Studies Division at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and the Bronx Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

If you have a request or recommendation for a presenter, please let me know by e-mailing me at tmchugh52@yahoo.com.  If you would like more information about the program committee, or if you would like to join us, please let me know. We will be meeting on February 28th at a location to be determined.=

Marylene Cloitre, PhD.

Will present on May 10, 2008

December 2007:

The 2007-2008 year started off with a great presentation by Janina Fisher on September 29.  Thanks to Ellen Ford for all of her hard work in putting this terrific program together!  We are looking forward to the December 8 program with Glenn Saxe, as well as the March 29 all day program with Richard Lowenstein.  The committee is working on putting together an excellent program for either May 10 or May 17, so more to follow on this at a later date.

If you have ideas for future presenters and/or topics, please let one of us know.  We are currently a small committee and we welcome your ideas and input and, if possible, your time.  You may remember that Janina suggested to everyone at September 29th’s program to join a committee!  Like all of the NESTTD committees, the program committee has a lot of responsibilities, including contacting potential speakers and arranging accommodations and transportation. Don’t let that scare you, however -- members can participate even in small ways, which is always a help.  If you are interested in finding out more about the committee, or if you have an idea for a future program, please contact any of our members or the chairperson Tracey McHugh at tmchugh52@yahoo.com.

May 2007:

The members of the Program Committee can take a moment to breathe now that the two-day conference with Ellert Nijenhuis is behind us.  (And what a conference it was!)  Program Committee members Rina Dubin, Wendy Forbush, Deborah Goldsmith, Ellen Ford, Deborah Rozelle, and Louisa Veletza have been diligently working to put meetings and this conference together all year.  As this newsletter goes to print, we are enthusiastically preparing for the half-day program on May 5 which will focus on Clinical and Socio-Cultural Aspects of Human Trafficking and will be presented by own esteemed colleague, Dr. Jose Hidalgo.

We remain active throughout the year in identifying and recruiting speakers for future programs.  If there is a presenter you would like to see at a future NESTTD conference, or a topic you’d like to hear more about, please let us know.  You can email the Program Committee Chair, Tracey McHugh, at tmchugh52@yahoo.com or any of the committee members.  And if you think you might be interested in volunteering to help with the behind-the-scenes preparations for conferences, please let us know.  We would be glad to hear from you!

On a final note, Louisa Veletza is moving to Greece (sadly for us) so she will not be able to continue as a committee member. Thank you, Louisa, for all of your hard work and thoughtful suggestions, questions, and input over the last few years.  It has been a pleasure to work with you.  Please keep in touch.  Best wishes from us all.

December 2006:

Now that the NESTTD year has been kicked off by the Dusty Miller presentation, the Program Committee is hard at work finalizing plans for the December 9 presentation by Daniel Hughes, as well as the March 16 and 17 two-day program with Ellert Nijenhuis.  In addition to these scheduled events we are working on a half-day presentation for May and we could use your help.

Like all of the NESTTD committees, the program committee has a lot of responsibilities, including contacting potential speakers, arranging accommodations and transportation, and writing reviews of programs.  If you are interested in finding out more about the committee, or if you have an idea for a future program, please contact Tracey McHugh at tmchugh52@yahoo.com.
